South Jersey VW Club

About SJVWC

Volkswagen Club of South Jersey was formed in March 2005 by Jack Kessel (6d4vdub). I use to do a lot of searches on the Internet to see if there was a VW Club in South Jersey and never had any luck. I said to myself, Self, why not start a club, which I did. I advertised it on the web on TheSamba and any VW web page I could, and the inquiries started rolling in.   The first VW to join was a 55 Oval along with her owner Steve Gerle. Following 55 Oval came 65 Vert with her owner Mayol Gutierrez. Volkswagen Club of South Jersey started to grow at a very fast rate. At a VW show in Acto, NJ I met a guy named Joe Tierno. In the course of our conversation I found he belonged to a club named the South Jersey Panzer and even though we were only a couple of miles apart we never heard of each others club.  Joe was friends with  A 40s style VW powered Drag car and it's owner Ed, who introduced him to Rick, Bob and Bill..

Joe would often say "We should start a VW club". Not just for the camaraderie,  but also as a force at car shows, since VW's in general seemed  to be treated as a second class -show car, hot Rod, drag racer-take your pick. Anyway they all agreed it was a good idea and formed the South Jersey Panzers.  Joe  needed a meeting place, and he met Chris Zanger, (head of Prestige VW dealer) and he was very enthusiastic about starting a VW club and offered the back of the show room of Prestige VW for meetings. A few of us from SJVWC went to the SJ Panzers next club meeting and there we agreed to unite the two clubs and it's been a happy marriage since.

Our club is open to all VW's air or water cooled.
